    When I upgraded from hardy to intrepid and started using network-manager again I noticed that in the NetworkManager Applet under wireless networks, it said; "device unmanaged".

    Just FYI, to fix this:
    Code:
    gksu gedit /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf
    then change:
    [ifupdown]
    managed=false
    to:
    [ifupdown]
    managed=true
    This will probably apply to most user of this tutorial...

    Very strange! I do not know what to do here due to I haven't been on a Windows machine for a while now. Sorry I can't help.

    Very strange.
    Report that as a bug in Launchpad and see if there is any news on it. And it might get fixed.

    Hi guys, I've been trying all day to get my card, the 8197, to work using this guide. I've installed ndiswrapper and have installed the win98 drivers. This seems to work to a certain extent, I can see all the wireless networks in my building including my own, which has a strong signal. My problem however is when I try to connect to the network. I input my wep information and I get both little green spheres to light green however it stalls after this and fails to connect stating "requesting network address from the wireless network" before failing. Using 8.1, for info;

    Re: HOWTO: Get RTL8187B (ID: 8197) Working. Step by Step

    Hi,

    although my wireless is now working with the rtl8187 driver that comes with 8.10, it is a bit intermittant and the range is reduced to such an extent that I cannot connect in the room I used to with ndiswrapper. I have to move closer to the router now (but that is on the stairs... not comfortable!).

    Is there any way to fix this since using the new network manager is much nicer than wicd and the ndiswrapper has other problems.

    BTW: I have tried;
    Code:
    sudo iwconfig wlan0 rate 5.5M fixed

    Are you on Intrepid or Hardy?
    If Interpid, read the very first part of the thread. Its got native support now and should work out of the box. But read it first and do the commands there.
