Is there a clipboard in Ubuntu?

    Hi,

I keep coming across this problem:
Whenever I copy some text from one program, close the program and try to paste it elsewhere, it just does not happen. If I keep the first program open (the source of the text) I can copy without any problems.
Is this as designed or a bug?

    Thanks

Yes, it is designed this way.

Is it a bug? Everybody has a different opinion.

Is it going to be fixed soon? Not a chance.

Why not try with a little program that keeps a clipboard history, like Glipper? sudo apt-get install glipper

Well, I did not know I had to have one! Silly me. On second thought now I understand what people mean when they tell me not to take things for granted, they mean not to take clipboards for granted

I use Parcellite. It is in the Ubuntu Software Center or if you prefer to run a command, then sudo apt-get install parcellite will bring on some smiles. Be sure to add it to Startup Applications in the System> Preferences menu.

    +1.

I've used Parcellite for a while now, and it's a fantastic program. I highly recommend it.

That's why it's installed by default in Mint!

+1 more. I couldn't get by without parcellite. It's the best clipboard manager I've found. It could stand some improvements, such as the ability to delete individual entries, but that's not a deal-breaker.
