I have the same basic question as you, dont find a way to make a new post in this most appropriate category...is this site a pick your brains site where you post the helpful solution to your problem, like a spambot, or are there any humans here who reply? I notice there are not replies visible to any of these laptop-problem issue threads here.
Wondering if l455 toshiba will be a waste of time to purchase Ubuntu or not, before i do it. (Tried knoppix once on different toshiba, no modem, no fan, etc.)
Thanks for telling that the fan doesnt work..I suspected that and am not going to kill a brand new laptop just to have the desired linux on here. (Its a program that runs the fan, so that program is missing in Ubuntu...just like the touchpad program, and the battery charge level program that measures.) (I am so sick and tired of Windows monopoly and bad security...dont understand whats so hard about making linux work with a laptop and why someone hasnt worked it out yet...L455 is 2 years old (just bought, new old stock at dept. store)....amazing.
