    [SOLVED] How to group windows?

    Hi,

I made the switch from Windows to Linux about three weeks ago - after hours of tweeking, rebooting, friggling and customizing, I'm very satisfied I did. But:

I miss one Win7-feature: Windows 7 groups all open windows of one kind together in
one task bar icon (i.e. all open Firefox-windows). Is there some way to get gnome panel to do the same (or similar)?

    Jörg

EDIT: Sorry, I googled it quite some time and found no solution, but there is another thread here in this message board which covers my question: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1424119

Besides AWN there is also Docky, Cairo Dock, etc. And my favourite which integrates with the Gnome Panel: DockBarX. You can simply google each...

Thanks I will experiment with the different options.

I have also found that if you press on the very left side of the panel - left of the menu-button - a menu pops up that allows for choosing the way windows are grouped.

If you right-click the little vertical "grip" bar to the left of the window list and
click "Preferences" in there, you can set the plain old Gnome panel to always group windows.

groups all open windows of one kind together in
Cairo-Dock can group windows togather, and even draw them stacked like on the win7 taskbar.
