    Ok, I solved it by choosing "Gnome" instead of "Gnome-failsafe" in GDM. I have no idea why it was set like that.

    It's all in the title : the network manager & power manager applets don't start automatically when I open a new GNOME session, although they are checked in the "startup application"...
