    Try the Ubuntu 9.04 Beta, its stable (for me). See if it works then.

    I've heard this before. I do not know why or how it does that. It is a bug in the Linux driver. I'm sure of it.
    Also, there is no hack here for it to detect the 8198. That's in the driver.

    Before the exit 0, put this:

    iwconfig wlanX rate 5.5M fixed
