Re: Autostart does not work, why?

    For what its worth,

I ran into a similar issue with three installations of Ubuntu 14.04 and the installation of the grive-tools. The indicator would not automatically startup even though it shows...

[ubuntu] Re: Unity missing Dash and panel

I have had this issue a few times. This is the second time it killed my Unity after a UPDATE took place. For me I run two GTX 470 Nvidia video cards and have dual monitors. So I finally remembered...

    [ubuntu] Re: Low graphics mode

Since I had subscribed to this thread,

I glanced through some of the original posts. There may be at least two different problems mixed in here maybe. The original was when it would boot up into...

    [ubuntu] Re: Low graphics mode

There must be something to the Intel thingy. I had two SSD's, the Linux and a Windows 8. I unhooked the Windows 8 and noticed the resolution problem went away. To be sure I remarked out the line in...

    [ubuntu] Re: Low graphics mode

[QUOTE=avli;12324703]After carefully reading this bug report I've found a solution, that works for me. I've added the following code into /etc/rc.local script

sleep 1 && service lightdm restart...
  6. [ubuntu] Re: WiFi in 12.04 works, stops working, requires reboot

Yea I hate multi-post too. Drives up the bean count.

And the new card worked great for over 8 hours this week at class...
  7. [ubuntu] Re: Bluetooth mouse freeze after 2 seconds of inactivity

This worked for me on 12.04 on a Lenovo T500 using a Dell PU705 bluetooth mouse. It would always lag about a second when it sat for a moment.

    Thank you!
  8. [ubuntu] Re: WiFi in 12.04 works, stops working, requires reboot

I fixed my connection problem the hard way. I replaced the wifi card in the laptop with a SL500 card part number 43Y6511. I bought one off of Ebay for $6 delivered. It is half the length and the...
  9. [ubuntu] Re: WiFi in 12.04 works, stops working, requires reboot

In the meantime while I am currently sitting in the student union at the University, I stumbled across a post saying to disable the N on the Intel 5100 adapter. Must be an issue with iwlwifi because...
  10. [ubuntu] Re: WiFi in 12.04 works, stops working, requires reboot

I have this problem on a Thinkpad T500 with the Intel 5100. It is a nightmare at the school I am attending, but seems to work on everything else I have connected to (which is not a lot of places). To...
  11. [gnome] Gnome shell crashes when Virtualbox started

    FYI:

If you run into trying to start VirtualBox and it crashes Gnomeshell 3.2, try reinstalling your video drivers.

Mine started doing this within the last couple of days. Not sure what update...
  12. [kubuntu] Re: Unity - Show all windows on desktop - Super-W

No I don't know how to get them the same size and it would be nice.
  13. [gnome] Re: Gnome Shell becomes slow after screen goes blank.

    After running all night UPDATE:

The PPA with the update for 3.2.1 has done this much
There is no longer a CPU usage on gnome-shell process, but the memory still grows. Although, it only grew to...
  14. [gnome] Re: Gnome Shell becomes slow after screen goes blank.

Update: I am sticking my neck out here on the stability side of things.

    I am trying this
    http://www.ubuntuupdates.org/ppa/gnome_shell?dist=oneiric

They put out some new updates today 10/25. I...
  15. [gnome] Re: Gnome Shell becomes slow after screen goes blank.

I wonder.. This problem for me is happening on my desktop which is an upgrade from 11.04 which was a fresh install at the time with a down graded compiz.

My T500 is a fresh install and seems very...
  16. [gnome] Re: Gnome Shell becomes slow after screen goes blank.

I ran Unity (not Unity2d) all night. This morning it is fine. No CPU or memory usage. But I do not know if it does some kind of reset on its own like Gnome Shell can do when there are enough errors.
  17. Re: New Ubuntu Is Out Lets Hear About What You've To Say

I am working on it. I moved from 11.04 in classic with a down graded Compiz and it was working very nicely.

The one thing I'm kind of liking is the typing in the name of something I'm looking for...
  18. [kubuntu] Re: Unity - Show all windows on desktop - Super-W

    I found it.

In CCSM -> Window Management -> Scale -> Bindings -> Initiate Window Picker For All Windows (monitor)
  19. [kubuntu] Unity - Show all windows on desktop - Super-W

    Unity question:

Is there a Compiz tweak or some setting to work like in Gnome Shell when you move your cursor to the upper left and it will show all the windows on the desktop like the Super-W key...
  20. [gnome] Re: Gnome Shell becomes slow after screen goes blank.

Left it running overnight with Xscreensaver. It did not shut off the monitor, so I obviously did not have it set right.

But the memory usage for Gnome-shell grew to 2.9G. Reset it, and it went...
  21. [gnome] Re: Gnome Shell becomes slow after screen goes blank.

It appears to also happen on my Thinkpad T500. What I discovered is that Gnome3 does not have a screen saver. But it blanks the screen and initiates power-save on the monitor.

    When it wakes up I...
  22. [gnome] Re: Gnome Shell becomes slow after screen goes blank.

I am having this happen too. Left the system on last night doing some encoding. This morning I had one core at 100%. Also, during general use, I noticed that dragging windows around it sometimes...
  23. [ubuntu] Re: Quick "How-To" on how I got my Brother DCP-7040 printer and scanner working

This worked for me too. Had some problems and reinstalled 11.04. Using the DCP-7020 did not work anymore.

I had to also install the 'brdcp7040lpr-2.0.2-1.i386.deb' using the same technique.

  24. [ubuntu] Re: How To: Install the Brother DCP-7040 Printer in Ubuntu 8.10

I fixed my DCP-7040 scanning problem. Turned out to be the rights issue for the USB. If I ran 'sudo simple-scan' (run as root) it works. There is no scanner group in my 11.04 groups. So instead I...
  25. [ubuntu] 11.04 'Classic' desktop speedup for dragging windows

For what its worth: Probably mentioned someplace but I did not find it.

I am using 11.04 64 with the Classic desktop. I found that dragging windows was terrible rough. Consumed CPU when dragged.
